10 CRAZY Spicy INDIAN Chicken Dishes at a DHABA + Seafood Market | Chennai, India
After I visited India for the first time in February of 2018, I returned home convinced that Indian street food is some of the most divine cuisine on Earth. If anything, I have doubled down on that after going back in November. You haven’t lived until you’ve Indian street food! And I can’t think of anything better than going on food adventures with my friend Sam from Samuel & Audrey. Subscribe to Sam & Audrey: https://www.youtube.com/user/BackpackingTravelTV Subscribe to Deepak: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkdjxXQ9seAvByq4LI8OtLQ Our mouthwatering adventures on our first afternoon and evening in Chennai continued as Sam, our new friend Deepak, and I visited an incredible seafood market and then tried ten spicy chicken dishes at a restaurant along the side of a highway called a Dhaba! Come along with us as we eat some outstanding Tamil food! My Film Making Kit ► https://kit.com/davidsbeenhere We started at Marina Beach, the second longest beach in the world. Along the beach is a seafood market that sells shark, prawns, shrimp, eel, crab, and more. Across from the beach is subsidized housing for the fishermen, and the beach itself is full of fishing boats. The fishermen take the boats out on the water from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. to catch the seafood they’re going to sell that day. Next, we drove an hour and a half to the bordering state of Telangana to find a special alcoholic drink made from palm trees that is illegal to sell in Tamil Nadu, the state Chennai is in. We didn’t find it unfortunately since it’s only available in March. So we pressed on to the open-air Sangeetha Dhaba Hotel and Restaurant along the highway for dinner. We ordered a massive non-veg feast consisting of ten amazing-looking chicken dishes, including Hyderabadi Chicken, pepper chicken, Maharaja chicken, Chicken Maharani, Rambha Chicken, Kashmiri Chicken, Mughlai Chicken, Andhra Chicken, and more! I couldn’t wait to dive in! We started with the Hyderabadi Chicken, which contains cashews, carrots, and an orange curry, along with some of the roti. It was rich and had a nice texture and a good amount of heat, but it wasn’t too hot. Next was a deep-fried drumstick, which was crispy and crunchy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. It was delicious and very satisfying! The Maharani Chicken was next, which contains cashews, egg, and lots of chilies that had a heat to them that stuck with me for a while! It was nice, but it wasn’t my favorite. While this dish was described to me as the queen, our next version was described as the king. It was topped with cashews, egg, and a minty green curry. It wasn’t as spicy, but I liked this one better! Next was pepper chicken, which were like little fried nuggets. Afterward, we cooled down our mouths with some raw onion and cucumber before I tried the pepper chicken again, this time with some lime, which added a nice freshness. Next, we tried an earthy green curry with eggs, spinach, and chicken before we moved on to the Rambha Chicken, which contained egg, cheese, carrots, beets, and cashews. It was hot and had a lot of spices in it, too. It was so hot that it made me sweat and I needed more cucumbers to cool my mouth down! The chicken lollipop we had next was crispy and full of spices, while our next dish had fried peppers, which went perfectly with the chicken! I love the combination of fried chicken and spicy, but it was very hot. Next was the Kashmiri Chicken, which was kind of sweet and contained more egg, beets and some dried fruit. It was really good! We followed that with the Mughlai Chicken, which was super buttery. All of the chicken in these dishes were similar, but the main difference is what was put on the egg. My favorite! Next, Sam tried his favorite, the Kashmiri Chicken, and then we wrapped up our meal with some payasam made from sweet milk, noodles, grapes, gummies, and cashews. I’m not big into sweets, but I liked this! It definitely helped cool my mouth down after so many hot and spicy dishes! I hope you enjoyed our seafood market trip and Dhaba feast!
